But now concerned that if it is fuel, it may not be the pump but the BCM. is that possible?
I just went out and tested my no-chip key in the ignition. The fuel pump still ran, the engine turned over, started, then 1 second later the sentry key light started blinking and the engine died. My guess is if it doesn't detect the right key it cuts ignition, since no spark would kill it right away, whereas it would still run rough for about 10 seconds if just the fuel pump cut out. Not sure what the BCMs role is in all of this though.

I would definitely try and check rail pressure like Frank said. Also, do you have any aftermarket accessories that could be causing the battery drain?

Re: 02 Grand 4.7 wont start

ok, checked the fuel, with the key in the on position, and when I use the check valve on the fuel rail, nothing. Initial depress I had squirt of gas come up, after that nothing.

Called a buddy with 2002 laredo V8, asked him to do the key dance, worked for him, didnt work for me.

Got him to put his key in the ignition to the on position, all his dash lights turned off except seat belt.

When I do this, I get the seat belt light and the sentry key light stay on. After about 10 or 20 seconds, the check engine light comes on. All 3 lights stay on until I remove the key from the ignition.

Thoughts? Thinking about getting my key re programmed. I have 2 grey keys. Neither of them work, I get the same problems with both keys.

zero accessories.

I only have the 2 keys I received from the previous owner, both are chips.

Re: 02 Grand 4.7 wont start

folks, a million thanks to all! The Jeep is alive and well.

I had pulled a bunch of fuses and relays related to fuel earlier in the week and they all checked out. I did replace the battery earlier in the week but did not check any electrical system fuses. Decided before I head out to get a key programmed, lets pull every single fuse under the hood and be sure. Well, the culprit was a blown PCM fuse. I swapped it with the AC clutch fuse and she fired right up.

I now need to go out and grab a 10amp fuse for this as the AC clutch fuse is 15amps. Pennies to fix this problem. Signs were pointing to issues with key recognition, the fuse was the problem why. Good to know if anyone else ever has similar issues with sentry key to check PCM fuses.

Not sure how it shorted out, possibly when I installed the new battery but happy to be back in business.

Funny, a few hours ago my neighbours landscaper came over to see what was going on as he was actually interested in maybe buying the truck for his son as he has owned many jeeps in the past and really likes the WJ models. I told him take it away as is $3500 no questions asked. He said he would but couldnt reach his son to come have a look first. Told him if I get it running price goes up to $4500 so be quick. Oh well, hope he's still interested

Guys again, one of the best forums I have ever experienced. this community rocks and you guys are awesome. thanks again!

Re: 02 Grand 4.7 wont start

Wow, amazing how easy it is to over think of a complicated solution to a simple problem. I find myself doing this all the time, something simple and I look at everything else first. So easy to do with all the electronic modules on cars these days. Glad you got it going good luck with the sale!
