Been so long since I've had mine on (K&N)I can't remember. I'm sure it would be easier not working around it though.

Quality might be slightly better from Mopar but the price will probably double. Myself the TPS is pretty important for the operation of a lot of systems I'd probably go Mopar.

Re: 02 JGC Limited Erratic Shifting Tranny

You can just change the TPS without removing anything else. Just 2 TorX screws and a connector. I have no experience with aftermarket TPS sensors, changed mine with MOPAR one.
And regarding the speed sensor, not sure if they have aftermarket for that one. Because you very rarely change those, i would say, go with MOPAR.

Re: 02 JGC Limited Erratic Shifting Tranny

FWIW, I have been running a TPS from Advance Auto for about 6 months now without a problem. Mine would act erratic like you said and wouldn't usually throw a code. If you had an obd II reader with monitoring you could hook it up and watch the computers output from the TPS, if it is erratic this confirms the problem. You can probably swap it out without pulling off the air box but I took it off so I could have more room to work.

I'm not sure about where to get a DRB III tool, but they are quite expensive, usually thousands of dollars. I would recommend an ODB II tool from your local auto store, they are only a few hundred and can handle most of your problems.

Re: 02 JGC Limited Erratic Shifting Tranny

Well i went to autozone tonight and bought a wheel speed sensor (for my ABS light), tps sensor (trying to fix the erratic shifting), 1qt ATF+4 (trying to fix the erratic shifting), , and a trans mission speed sensor(trying to fix the erratic shifting), . the input and output trans speed sensors are the same part number. But just my luck its started snowing and the temp dropped like crazy to 10-20deg with a wind chill of 3deg, not messing with it!!!!! Nothing worse then a useless 4wd during a snow storm because of a mech issue that stops you from driving it.

Re: 02 JGC Limited Erratic Shifting Tranny

Probably best to change both speed sensors at the same time, then you know at least that the problem should not be there.

I'm gonna do the TPS first then the speed sensors. I am going to get both sensors but this store only had one sensor. Gotta wait till today to get the other trans speed sensor. When i replace the abs wheel sensor should the light go off automaticly or do I gotta get it reset?

P0121 is the code I was getting when my TPS went out. You definitely need the new TPS. Since you already have the tranny speed sensors I would put them in too, then you don't have to worry about it later. Good luck!

Re: 02 JGC Limited Erratic Shifting Tranny

If the ABS fault is cleared, the light should go out, however the fault code will stay in the memory of the ABS controller for about 50 starts and will then selferrase. Or you would need an DRBIII scanner to reset the fault.

Re: 02 JGC Limited Erratic Shifting Tranny

The code will stay as Frank said but the light may or may not go out right away. Mine took a few miles of driving to eventually go out after the problem was fixed.
