Angry 03 limited stuck in rwd?

I brought a 03 wj limited 4.7 with quad drav back in February. I got stuck in snow& only my back tires were spinning. Any suggestions? I have a warranty but it took them 30 days to put a transmission in.

Re: 03 limited stuck in rwd?

Sounds like a problem. I'm going to ask you a really stupid question only because it's something easy to check... is your front driveshaft there?

Re: 03 limited stuck in rwd?

My last one was an 02 Limited, 4.7L and QDII. That thing went through 12 winters and I never had a problem with operation or getting stuck. What you described above doesn't sound normal for QDII.

Re: 03 limited stuck in rwd?

Indeed good to check if the front drive shaft is in. But quadra drive uses the NV247 T-case and that one is known to give problems with the progressive coupler inside the T-case. (also used on quadra tracII). I never red anything about why it happens, but to me the problem is the difference in tire wear front to back. If the front and rear wheels are not swapped on regulary basis, there will be a (small) difference in tire diameter due to the difference in tire wear, and this difference in diameter will actuate the progressive coupler all the time. The pressure will be low (since it depends on the speed difference between front and rear propeller shafts), but there will be a constant force applied on the coupler clutch plates, which causes them to wear. The coupler is a very expensive part and you better look for a good junk yard part, or, as many other already did, swap a NV 242 in its place.
In above case the 4Lo should still work, since it bypasses the progressive coupler. If 4Lo also doesn´t work, then there most probably is a problem with the chain inside the T-case.

Re: 03 limited stuck in rwd?

I'm going to just get it looked at, if it's expensive i'll care it back to the dealership. It has a 2 year warranty on it

Re: 03 limited stuck in rwd?

Ha, thx yeah my front driveshaft was missing. Question, do you know if a 99 limited driveshaft would work for a 03 limited? Or if a 04 Laredo would work for a 03?

Re: 03 limited stuck in rwd?

I think that the model year is not that important (at least it should be a WJ), but it should be for a NV 247 T-case and have the type of coupling that is now on your jeep. Because it can have a CV joints on both sides, or U joints or even a combination of the two.
But the question is why did they remove the prop shaft. Was it because one of the joints was bad, or was there something going on in the front diff or the T-case? Only time will tell.

Re: 03 limited stuck in rwd?

Between the dealer or the tranny shop someone needs too replace your front driveshaft.
Is the tranny shop also the dealer?
