03 wj jeep hard to start

Hi I know it's probably been asked before I have a 03 wj grand cherookee I got it back from the shop from getting the engine rebuilt and now I'm finding it hard to get it to start Onec it's been shut off its like the fuel is been drained back to the tank no matter how long it sits for 30 sec or overnight. I replaced the fuel pump as the sender unit had stopped working and I replaced the fuel filter while I was at it. When it's tarted it drives fine no hesitation what so ever I can hear the pump making noise some times when I go to start it as I try to let it prime before I fire it up. Any help would be sweet

Re: 03 wj jeep hard to start

If you prime the fuel system 3 times, does that make any difference?( ignition switch OFF-RUN three times, and then start)
Did you change the fuel filter/regulator for this problem, or did the problem start after changing the filter?
Did you check for eventual fault codes set in the PCM? A faulty coolant temp sensor will cause hard starting. If you have a scanner with live data, you can check the different sensors and see if their output is in reasonable limits.
Could eventually be a leaking injector.

Re: 03 wj jeep hard to start

You can put a fuel pressure tester on the schräder valve on the fuel rail. But the filter/regulator should keep the fuel line to the engine full of fuel, so that would be the first one to suspect. Also the fuel pump seems to be working fine, because once started, it runs ok. Since the filter/regulator is quite cheap, i would just replace it. Did you use any known brand?

Re: 03 wj jeep hard to start

You are obviously loosing the fuel from the fuel rail and line. So the problem is or with the filter, or with the fuel pump assy. That you loose the fuel in such a short time, points towards a large leak. Since removing the pump assy is quite some work, i would start with the more easy part and change the filter. You don´t have the old filter anymore, just for trouble shooting?
