04 intermittent radio function

Hey all,

I'm currently having trouble with my 2004 gc limited with infinity sound system. I purchased the jeep used about a month and a half ago, and discovered the radio did not work. The display is lit up, and you can switch functions, adjust volume, see the clock etc, however there is no sound playing.

Fast forward to tonight: I get into my jeep after the gym, turn it on and lo and behold, music! Now, at this point I am jumping for joy that I must have stumbled across some sort of self-healing jeep. However, about ten minutes later, fully engrossed in my music jam session, I crank the volume to about 28 or so, and pop - system no longer plays sound. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be to cause the system to not work for so long, start working, and then to cease working with an increase in volume? I'm wondering if this was a cause, or merely coincidence. Thanks!

Re: 04 intermittent radio function

I would expect a loose wire connection or an internally broken wire. The amplifier sits under the rear seat rh side, have a look if the connector is inserted well and if no wire is pinched somewhere. Secondly i would look behind the radio itself.

Re: 04 intermittent radio function

Hey everyone! Sorry for the late response, with the holiday season I got too caught up in the day to day and didn't have any time to troubleshoot the jeep. I had power at the amplifier, so I determined that wasn't the issue.

The problem ended up being the head unit - strange since the display on it was working fine, but I took a chance on a new head unit, and sure enough I've got sound now and all is well! Thanks again for your help, and I hope this can help anyone else who is having the same symptoms I was regarding the sound system. Happy new year!

-Michael
