Re: 1999 grand cherokee transfer case problems

Could be as simple as needing the tcase linkage adjusted so that the case is fully engaged when you pull the lever. Could also be a busted tooth on once of the gears. No way to really know unless you crawl under the Jeep and see what is happening when the level is placed in low and or tear the tcase apart and take a look inside.

Whatever you do, don't continue to attempt to drive it in 4-low hoping it will self correct itself.

Re: 1999 grand cherokee transfer case problems

Hi,
I have the Service manual for the 1999 jgc from Chrysler and see nothing on linkage adjustments.

The service manual may not refer to it as a "linkage" but there is a cable that attaches the tcase lever to the tcase and it needs to be working correctly to properly engage 4-low.

yes I see that and it does sound like it is not fully engaging and the gears are grinding and jumping off each other. I'll have to research adjustment procedures and give that a try.

Thanks for your replies.
