1999 Tailgate Window Sticking

I recently purchased a 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo. The rear/tailgate window will pop open and travel about 4 inches before stopping. Has anyone ever had a similar problem? Any suggestions? I have tried pulling on it as much as I feel comfortable. Thanks for any help or advice!

Re: 1999 Tailgate Window Sticking

Never experienced this myself, but i think that the problem is a locking gas spring.
Are you able to disconnect one at a time with the space available to see if it will open normally then?

Not sure. I am going to try to work on this today. I'm still trying to figure out how to get get at the hinges for the window. The tailgate opens fine, but the glass window will only travel about 4 inches before hanging up.

Re: 1999 Tailgate Window Sticking

Best is to loosen the gas springs and see if you can open it normally.

OK. I still can't figure out how to get the "hinges" open??
Just to make sure I understand you; The tailgate opens and closes just fine, it's the tailgate-window that will not open independently. Do the black hinge covers just pop open if pried from the glass?

Re: 1999 Tailgate Window Sticking

What we are saying is. When you open your rear window and it stops after about 4 inches is to reach in between the window and hatch and try and release the gas shocks that would normaly hold the window up . They tend to rust up and that stops it from opening.
