2000 GC 4.7 stalling

Hello all long time follower first time poster from midwest. My above GC started stalling two weeks ago. Towed to dealer and they replaced crank position sensor , tps and iac. Ran fine for three days and stalling again. Dealer says must be ecu. I can't afford to build the dealer a new showroom so I am looking for help. It doesn't matter if engine is cold or at operating temp jeep will stall after two minutes or 45 minutes. Dies as if key was shut off. Gauges stay on briefly and then drop. CEL comes on briefly and then goes out. No codes are stored. It will only restart if CEL comes on when key is turned. If CEL does not come on with key turned it will only crank.

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the garage. There is a good change that the PCM is the problem. You could give it a try and swap the auto shutdown relay in the PDC under the hood with a similar one and check the wire bundles for chaving.

Re: 2000 GC 4.7 stalling

Seems that the PCM is not sending incormation via the PCI data bus to the instrument panel. Do you have a scanner to check for fault codes, because the keydance will most probably also not work.
How about power locks and overhead panel, do they work?

Re: 2000 GC 4.7 stalling

All I have is an OBD2 code reader. No codes. Power door locks do not work overhead display does work. Could there be a ground problem that didn't show up with the old PCM?

Re: 2000 GC 4.7 stalling

Overhead display works, but does it show all the data? (ie mpg etc)? The new problem can be with the new PCM. I would remove and reconnect the three PCM connectors once again and check if no pins are pushed back. (disconnect battery for this).

Re: 2000 GC 4.7 stalling

Thanks for all your help. The replacement PCM was bad. Installed another one and everything works as should, stalling solved.

Re: 2000 GC 4.7 stalling

I see it on here more often that a new refurbished PCM is bad. Would be interresting to see if there is a common supplier, or that this doesn´t matter.
Happy jeeping.
