2000 Gr. Cherokee Tranny noise

Hello all, my 1st post on the site, i just brought my 1st Jeep, 2000 Grand Cherokee Larado 4.0 with selec-trac I've noticed when i put the car in reverse there is a fairly loud wining or moaning noise. This only happends with the car in reverse. If i give it some gas it goes away. Anyone have this similar problem or can offer any idea's as to what is causing this? Before i go spending money at mechical shop just want to see if this is maybe something normal, as i said my 1st jeep.

any feedback would be great!

The noise is there as soon as you put it in reverse, without moving? Is the noise there also when put in manual 1st?
Did you already check the fluid level/color/smell?

Yes, once i put in reverse takes about 2-3 seconds to start wining, no noise in drive, tranny shifts smooth, fluid is translucent and topped up. i've had a couple of people tell me no big deal, but i thought it might be a common jeep thing.

But besides D, did you put it in manual 1st as well? Only in reverse and manual 1st the rear band is used, so doing this test would confirm or discard a rear band problem.
