2002 grand cherokee limited 4.7HO

Hello everyone. I'm trying to fix my RPM surging problem. I know my jeep holds at 2400 RPM at 75mph. It has started to jump RPM from 2400 to 2800 at the highway speed in overdrive. I have also caught it doing a 4-500 RPM jump in drive as well. My good buddy thinks it may be the transmission computer crapping out. I take real good care of my jeep & it is my daily driver. Most things I've read on google say TPS sensor. ANY help?????

Re: 2002 grand cherokee limited 4.7HO

Welcome to the garage.
Did you check for any fault code set?
That the rpm jumps, is probably due to the torque converter clutch releases.
It could come due to the TPS, but also due to a speed sensor, a shift solenoid or pressure switch. How does the transmission shift through all gears?
Did you check the level and color/smell of the fluid?
If no fault codes and fluid looks good, i would start changing the TPS.

Re: 2002 grand cherokee limited 4.7HO

No fault codes stored OR ck eng lights. I talked to the service stealership guys & they told me to try changing tranny filters & they said once got pan off if ANY metal in it at all, then pump was going south. Well I changed filters-prob had 40,000 on em-Fluid looked like I coulda just dumped back in it but didn't & NO metal AT ALL!!! Ran about 120 miles no prob first trip. 2nd trip rpm surge crap again. TPS is new-from stealership- & verified TB is so fresh & so clean clean. No smell to fluid. Shifts like a beast! no slip no slam hard on it or light on the pedal just the damn surge. I guess at this point gonna try a puter for trans & see if any good. Thanx
