2002 quadra drive grinding when turning left and right?

A buddy of mine has a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and with the quadra drive system in it. He said its seems to be grinding somewhere when he makes left and right turns. Any idea what this could be. I might know a little more about this but I have not owned that style jeep. I have a 1998 and 2005 so

Thanks In advance for any help you can give me

The Quadra-drive system has Varilocs in the diffs. These Varilocs need a limited slip additive in the fluid, so that the locks don't lock completely in case of making turns. Was the fluid changed lately?

Re: 2002 quadra drive grinding when turning left and right?

I had a grinding sound on tight turns too, turned out to be the front CV axles. Once I got them replaced, grinding sound gone.

There was no leaking grease or clicking sounds that would normally indicate a bad CV joint.
