2002 WJ 12v Radiator Fan T-shooting.

Hi everyone, new member and 1st post.

I recently bought a brand new (to me) 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 w/4.0 I6.

While doing a tune-up, I noticed the electric radiator fan had blades broken and I then learned about the safety recall F25.

My local Jeep dealer replaced the fan but when I got home I decided to test it out by idling the Jeep with the A/C on maximum and the blower fan on high but the electric radiator fan never came on.

The engine temperature never got much over 210 and the A/C felt like it was blowing fairly cold air, ambient temp was around 80.

My question is, shouldn't have the fan came on and if so what do I need to check? I've already visually checked the 40amp fuse but I am sure there is a relay and or maybe a sensor somewhere that needs to be checked.?.?

Re: 2002 WJ 12v Radiator Fan T-shooting.

Welcome to the garage.
There is a relay hidden under the passenger side headlight (you have to cut a hole, check out some other threads regarding this). But many times this relay gets bad due to the cooling fan which draws too much current. I don't know how much current draw is normal though, so maybe someone can chime in on this. When switching the AC on, the fan should normally turn on as well, so i wont suspect the temperature sensor in this case.

Okay thanks, I remember reading that in a thread somewhere. I did a search, but maybe I didn't search good enough...

Anyway, the relay is cheap so I'll replace it even if it tests good.

Still strange that the dealer changed the fan and didn't test it for proper functioning.
