2003 Radiator Fan

2003 WJ, 4.0L engine

I'll save the long story and cut to the chase. I don't THINK my radiator fan is coming on at all. After driving to work today (30 miles of highway), I parked the Jeep, popped the hood, and looked at the fan. It was stationary.

I'm not having any overheating problems. This is just something I happened to notice. Granted, it was 49 degrees today and I was traveling at 60 mph. But the temp gauge read between ~180-200.

My question is simple. When is the fan suppose to run? Should it always be running (at least on low) when the engine is on? Or what are the conditions for it to run? I have a feeling the PWM needs to be replaced. But I've never had any overheating issues.

No,it doesn't stay on all the time. I watched it once & it usually kicks in somewhere around 210. You hear a little click noise and the fan starts. If it chilly outside I've noticed it will cool down fast & turn off.

If you want to test it when you get home, just open the hood while its still running & you'll see it kick off & on. From personal experience, if you sit still long enough & the relay or fan is not working you'll overheat in no time.

That's what I'll end up doing. I just assumed it would at least be on "low" speed at normal operating temperature. I've never had an overheating problem, so I imagine it's working. But I'm going to make sure. Thanks.
