2003 WJ 4.7 NV247 loss of 4wd

Ok...so as the title says, I have an 03 JGC 4.7 w the 545RFE and the NV247 quadra trac II....Has 192k miles on the clock, I've had it since 77k too btw.

I've had this vehicle for around 6 years and have never had a problem with it. (also no accidents no wrecks, nothing) About 2k miles ago I even changed out the transfer case fluid with the correct Amsoil tractor oil. At 130k I pulled the valve body and did the transgo kit myself.

SO...as of yesterday I got literally stranded in the middle of nowhere on a small incline with snow come only to find that only one tire is spinning, the right rear. I was a little ticked but I really love this thing.

I went from 4H to the 4Low and still nothing...just the one tire spinning and me getting pissed.

Also I should make mention that this is a std WJ with no lift kit and no mods done.

If anyone has any thoughts let me know!

Thanks!

~L

PS....should make mention that it drives absolutely perfectly on normal dry roads and you cannot tell that the full time 4wd is gone.

You can not tell that full time 4x4 is gone until you need it. Quite comon for the 247 that the progressive coupler stops working, but it should still work in 4 Lo. The problem can be with the chain inside the T case, or a problem in the front diff. Best is to remove the front prop shaft and try to turn the T case output shaft. If it rotates freely, then most probably the chain is the problem. If it doesnt, then you have to look at the front diff.

Nope! It is in fact the differential. After much thought, a few months ago while lightly accelerating and taking a right turn, I heard a huge thump in the front of the vehicle and it appeared to have no damage to anything at the time.

Anyways, as of today we ruled out the TC. I didn't have the time to inspect the differential but will shortly.

Any other ideas let me know.

Thanks again!
