2004 Grand Cherokee with stuck sunroof

Hello everyone. would appreciate any info on how to remedy/repair my problem with a sunroof that will not close completely. I have power thru the overhead console switch. there apparently is a problem with a relay, limit switch or control module. Are there any special requirements for removal of the inner shade and head liner without any damage to either. I also believe this is the cause for the battery drain I'm getting. Any help recieved will be greatly appreciated. Regards, Ron

Try doing a search if you haven't already. I believe I read one not too long ago concerning a possible adjustment on sunroofs.
Hope this helps. I had always been leary of sunroofs because I had one in the old days that leaked real bad and could not stop it. My car stunk forever. But I liked it because I had a paper route and it was convenient to toss the paper out the top.

Re: 2004 Grand Cherokee with stuck sunroof

Does the sunroof still opens? There can be something mechanically blocking the sunroof, check that out first. The sunroof motor is preset at the factory and normally there should not be any adjustments.

Re: 2004 Grand Cherokee with stuck sunroof

I have an issue with mine in my '01 but it is due to something along the track. Haven't had the time to fix it yet.

I haven't used forums before so iI hope I get this reply posted correctly. The sunroof will move manually but will not close completely and I do not hear the motor operation when the switch is engaged.

Re: 2004 Grand Cherokee with stuck sunroof

Did you check the fuse 25 (15A) on the junction block under the steering wheel? When you say that it moves manually, you mean that you can move it freely by hand?

1st off THANK YOU for your help. How I do it on the site as seen I'll figure out. TO summerize[sp] my situation. I have had a serious battery drain going on for appx. 3/4 of a yr. To be specific 3 to 4 amps. I have been in the electrical industry for 38 yrs. not automotive though. I have narrowed the problem down to the JP power supply fuses under hood especially fuse # 15. What they supply 4 total is unknown. #5 is power lamps is known. when JB fuses are removed and replaced 1 by 1 in no direct order the test light spikes showing major draw. Since the sunroof operation ceased at approx. same time, thought was sunroof motor or control module. The jeep has passed a total OBD II scan & alternator was completly and I mean completly disconnected to locate or eliminated these sources. I have been told that all control modules are interlocked which maybe why I cannot identify the source. I know of Xmission, BCM, PCM, left & right windows, sunroof modules. Since sunroof was a possible source I followed that path. I worked on it today and unjammed sunroof and now it is opperable. I then checked for battery drain and it is still present. I am totally baffeld and feeling pretty stupid, or these jeep engineers did this intentionally. Once again your help is greatly appreciated. THANKS Ron

Re: 2004 Grand Cherokee with stuck sunroof

According the wiring diagram, fuse 15 (50A) from the power distribution center under the hood, feeds the following fuses on the junction block:
Fuse 5: Power amplifier and Radio
Fuse 7: Sentry key module, automatic zone control module, BCM and Auto headlamp
Fuse 8: Internal lights
Fuse 9: Front power outlet
Fuse 10: Adjustable pedals

When you remove all those fuses, is the current draw then reduced to some miliAmps? There will always be some current draw, due to the memory functions of several control modules.

Frank are you in Sao Paulo Brazil working for Chrysler. Curious my brother-in-law was an engineer there for Chrysler before retirement. ratherBfishin1 / Ron

Re: 2004 Grand Cherokee with stuck sunroof

I had the same problem with my sunroof on my 01. The only problem I had was that cold damaged the track that it runs on. So every time I close it I have to hold the broken piece down so it can catch the rail.
