3157 Led Brake light swap?

Hey guys, i drive a 2000 WJ so i've run into to problem with the sockets in the tail light fixture. my drivers side brake light was the first to go. i replaced with a cheap oem replacement socket from amazon and it has burned up already too. i'll keep replacing it till i can buy new fixtures. but i found LED bulbs to fit that socket for about $10 a pair. would these draw less current and prevent it from getting so hot?

Re: 3157 Led Brake light swap?

The LEDs will use less power and produce less heat than stock bulbs, but it could also be that the board in the fixture itself is bad.

Re: 3157 Led Brake light swap?

I'm not sure if it can be fixed, just replaced. Not sure if that would help though, search the wj section and you should find another thread or 2 about this problem.

Re: 3157 Led Brake light swap?

My ex-wifes' 04 is having the same problems. She had a mechanic replace the sockets and the complete tailight housing on each side and it didn't last long after she spent all that money. I had the same idea. I told her it was heat and/or a bad connection and that l.e.d. lamps might just cure the problem. I haven't tried it yet though.
