4.7 WJ Exhaust Manifold Leak?

Hey guys. Over the past year or so on startup ive been getting a ticking that lasts about 30 seconds. However over the last month its gotten a lot worse. it sounds like its coming from the valve train however from what ive been reading it doesnt make sense that it would be the lash adjusters. Because now after it gets fully warmed up and ran for a while it starts ticking slightly again. not very loud but noticeable if your next to the car or open the door and listen under the car.

So when it starts its quite loud and quickly starts fading away. After running for a min its completely silent and nothing sounds weird, but after running a little harder it starts ticking again. which i assume is the manifold expanding enough to start leaking again.

just thought id see what you guys think.

Btw, there is no power loss and gas mileage is normal, actually better since i put a magnaflow muffler on it.

Good change that indeed one of the exhaust manifolds is leaking. You should remove the manifold heat shields to have a better look at them and maybe being able to discover any signs of a leak (black stripes).

Re: 4.7 WJ Exhaust Manifold Leak?

alright, ill have to take the heat shields off when i have time.

from the looks of it i wouldnt have too big of a problem doing the drivers side, but the passenger side does look really annoying to do. how much would a shop charge to replace the gasket and studs?

Re: 4.7 WJ Exhaust Manifold Leak?

I have to do both sides on mine and my quote from an exhaust shop was 778 for both sides

Re: 4.7 WJ Exhaust Manifold Leak?

I paid $250 to have the drivers side done. I supplied the new bolts, new exhaust manifold and new exhaust manifold gasket.
