The controller knob that switches from legs, defrost, front etc.. isn't working. It only works on one setting, heat, and A/C both work fine, just the control knob doesn't switch back and fourth. Any ideas?
It's vacuum controlled so I would guess it's a vacuum leak. Have you pulled the control panel out and looked at the condition of the hoses? Maybe one of them is pinched.
There's a difference between a Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. But since they stoped making the Cherokee in 2001, I'm going to assume you mean Grand Cherokee. :thumbsup:
ZJ = 1993-1998 Grand Cherokee
WJ = 1999-2004 Grand Cherokee
WK = 2005-2010 Grand Cherokee
WK2 = 2011+ Grand Cherokee
Do you know if you have a 6 cylinder or 8 cyliner?
6 cylinder = 4.0L
8 cylinder = 4.7L
I do not believe they made a SRT8 for the WJ. That would mean that you have a 2004 WJ.
So now it depends if you have a WJ with the manual temp control, or the AZC (automatic zone control system). The manual control is vacuum controlled, the AZC with an electric motor. With the vacuum control many times the problem is a disconnected or leaking vacuum line in the engine bay.
How do I determine which one I have??? I don't think it's the blower resister because my high medium low blower settings work fine, its the direction of the flow that isn't working. Air only comes out of the defroster up against the windshield no matter the flow control position. So if I have it set to legs it still only will come out the defroster.
If it looks like that, it's the manual control and you most likely have a vacuum leak somewhere. If it doesn't look like that, then you have an automatic system that's controlled electronically.
When you have only low/medium/high for the blower settings, for sure you have the manual system. The default position is windshield when you loose the vacuum. Have a look under the hood if you can find the hose (it comes out of the firewall on drivers side (when you're not in England at least) and goes to the throttle body when i'm not wrong. You probably have a leaking or disconnected line.
