A/C condensation issues

My wife tells me on the way home yesterday that water is dripping on her feet. I noticed that all the hard plastic pieces under the passenger side was covered in condensation. I have since discovered that there was standing water under the carpet and that the water is coming from the A/C drain tube that goes through the firewall. The water is coming out from behind a foam seal and running down the inside firewall into the passenger floor. The only information I have found discusses unstopping the A/C drain plug. I have water running out the drain plug. Any ideas on why there is water running into my passenger floor?

Thanks

Brian

Re: A/C condensation issues

If the drain plug gets blocked, the condensation will back up and run into the footwell. Does it smell of coolant?

Re: A/C condensation issues

It is just plain water. Which baffles me because my first thought was that the drain tube had gotten stopped up. But with the A/C running you can see the water dripping out from under the Jeep and when you pop the hood you can visually see water coming out of the drain tube. We are going to get it figured out today. It is suppose to be in the 100's again today. I need my A/C!

Re: A/C condensation issues

I have made a couple of phone calls this morning, the concensus is that there is still possibly a small blockage that is not allowing the water to fully run out. I am going to blow it more to see if I can dislodge any other debris that could be in the tube. It appears that there is already lots of drainage, but been told that there should be lots more drainage since the humidity has been so high. Oh the joys of summertime in the South!

Re: A/C condensation issues

Still no luck in getting the blockage out! I am trying everything in my power to not have to pull the dash. I have found different posting on this website and other websites, that on ZJ's you can drill a 1/4-3/8 inch hole in the back of the drain tube to get the debris out. I have thought of this but I do not know what is inside of the housing since all the information just refers to ZJ and not WJ, and I do not want to drill in the wrong spot. I wish the local pull a part had a WJ that I could go and see what is behind the drain tube.

The positive is that if I do have to pull the dash, then I can replace the blend doors, evaporator, the heater core, and anything else that I cannot think of at this time that is known to eventually fail and I can make it worth my while.

Stay tuned!!

Re: A/C condensation issues

My wife had this happen in her Patriot. Water all over the place. It also just started to happen in my friends Cobalt. They fixed it by taking it to the dealer and having them shot compressed air into it and shooting out the leaves or whatever was blocking the vents. Worked like a charm and didn't cost a dime. Worth a shot bro I hope that works!!!

Re: A/C condensation issues

Well the condesation issue seems to be fixed! Some prodding with some thin gauge wire seems to have removed the partial blockage. YEAH!!!

Re: A/C condensation issues

My drain plug had just a straight little pipe coming out of the firewall. So when I was driving the wind was just blowing the water right into the passenger side and would flood the floor. I put a small bent piece of rubber hose on it pointing downwards and no more leaks. That was my problem.....not sure if it's yours. Just something to take a look at.

There's vid on youtube in relation to this. It was done on a Liberty I think.

Re: A/C condensation issues

Before you go and spend money, some backyard engineering may be in order.

Get a thin wire hanger, straight it out, put it into the drainage tube from underneath, it should make a clear path and stop the leaking. A few guys on the other WJ forums have had similar problems and had luck with this method.

Best of luck to you!

Re: A/C condensation issues

Popular issue in the Wrangler and the XJ Cherokee...fixed just how you did it. A little prodding with hanger wire...sometimes a shop vac helps too if you can get it down to the drain hose.

Just tell your wife you "pimped" your ride and that's a foot bath you installed just for her.
