A/C Help please. Humid air & on off cool air

A/C is acting up again. Now it's intermittantly blowing cold air but at times it will blow humid air as well. Not sure if the air is still cool or not due to the heat index the humidity causes but it sure feels warmer. It also seems that when I am going up hill it will blow the warm humid air and when going down hill or on the level it does ok. Charge is good on the refrigerant. Any thoughts?

Is there any standing water in the HVAC housing?

There wasn't any water present or signs of water when I changed the blower motor. Nothing dripping on the inside. I would expect it to be around this area since it's the lowest point.

no water blowing from or condensation around the vents. Could it be the drier?

Re: A/C Help please. Humid air & on off cool air

When the airco is on, do you see condensation water dripping underneath the jeep? If not, it could be that the drain opening is clogged.
The receiver/drier is a component in the refrigerant lines and serves as a water trap for any moisture in the lines, but this will not do anything with the air going to the cabin. Its the evaporator in the HVAC housing where moisture from the air will condensate and be separated and drained overboard.

Re: A/C Help please. Humid air & on off cool air

I'll let the A/C run a bit here soon and check. Where is the drain located at? If it is the evaporator drain, how do you get to it. How do you tell if the evaporator is bad and needs replaced. My manual isn't very clear on how to remove and install this part. I have a haynes. Man do I miss the original chilton books. What I really should do is get a factory repair manual.

Re: A/C Help please. Humid air & on off cool air

I should point out that it has been very hot and humid here. Temps of 98-100 with a relative humidity of 80% gives us a heat index of about 115-120. On the flip side my wife's A/C in her jeep is working great.

Ok evaporator seems to be draining fine. A/c on for 5 minutes and large pool of water on ground.

Re: A/C Help please. Humid air & on off cool air

The effectivity of the airco system is negatively influenced by the humidity of the air. Because for the humidity to condensate, it needs something cold, the evaporator in this case. And this low temperature is now not transferred to the air, but used for the condensation of the water, thus reducing the effectivity of the evaporator to cool down the air. The only explanation i can find why it would blow humid air when climbing, is that the drain hole is on the front side of the EVAC housing, so when climbing, the water will not drain out, but stay in the housing and will maybe be taken by the passing air.

Re: A/C Help please. Humid air & on off cool air

When I started up the A/c there was a large puddle of water on the ground about 5 minutes after starting it up. I was parked at a slight uphill angle then at a down hill angle and the rate of drainage remained the same at about 5-8 drips a second and was blowing cool air into the cabin so I don't think it would be the evaporator drain but if it is what's next. Where is the evaporator drain tube? I hate to sound ignorant but is there and easy way to unplug this drain from the underside of the jeep or is this something that I'm going to have to disassemble the dash to tackle. My manual has very limited explanation of the Heating and A/c and doesnt get into anything in the housing.

I never had a problem with this drain myself, but you should be able to access it from the engine bay. Just look where the water is dripping from.
