A/C Problems

Well its summer time here in Texas, and with my good fortune, the A/C in my Jeep is having some issues. The 100+ weather is getting to me, so it's now on the top of my list of things to fix. Several weeks ago when the A/C was engaged the pulley locked up, with AC disengaged the pulley would spin as it should. I can turn the compressor by hand, so my guess at the problem was the A/C clutch. Soon after, the pulley was starting to make some awful sounds. This turned my attention to the bearing. Now the Bearing is completely shot and the pulley is eating away at the clutch. I will attempt to attach a photo. My Question is, should the entire compressor be replaced? or just the clutch assembly? Any help, thoughts, ideas, guesses, will be appreciated.

Blessings,
Ross

Re: A/C Problems

You can change the clutch separate from the compressor. Have a look at rockauto.com, they have several options overthere.

Re: A/C Problems

Is there a way to determine that it is only the clutch that failed? Is possible that the compressor failed and caused problems with the clutch?

Re: A/C Problems

If you can turn the compressor by hand and there are no strange noises nor play, i would think that the compressor is ok. If you donīt want to take the risk, you change the complete assy, but then you also have to service the refrigerant.
