ABS Light & Airbag light

The ABS light comes on periodically. I don't know the last time the pads were changed and I still have the Teves calipers. Also regarding the brakes: the pedal feels quite mushy, as though I really have to get on it in order to stop the vehicle. Potential problems there? I'm putting the Akebono calipers on with new pads on up the front, but I don't think that would fix the feel of the pedal, would it? Input please!

Also, the airbag light is on. Are the airbags completely nonfunctional at this point or is just a sensor issue? Would they still deploy in the event of an impact? The beeping is quite annoying.

Thanks! I still need to make some money but the mods will come! I also thought about selling her, but I can't sell the Jeep I learned to drive in, haha. You guys have been a huge help!

Re: ABS Light & Airbag light

hrm, does your horn and cruise control still work? If not, the airbag light could be the famous clockspring issue.

If you land up replacing it check the instructions out here:
http://www.wjjeeps.com/steering_sw.htm - go to the steering wheel switch wiring section

The horn and cruise are both still perfectly functional.

hrm, I believe there is a vacuum line somewhere with a sensor near by. I'd probably pull the code to see exactly what air bag issue you are having.

Re: ABS Light & Airbag light

I had the airbag light on before and was fixed by just making sure that all the wires under the passenger seat were plugged in properly

Re: ABS Light & Airbag light

Regarding the feel of your brake pedal, there can be air in the brake lines or maybe the brake fluid is too old. Now that you will change to the akebono calipers you already have to change the fluid and bleed the whole system. Regarding the bleeding i heard that its better not to push the brake pedal, but use a special bleed can. When you push the pedal while bleeding, it will travel more then it usually does and can damage seals inside the master cylinder due to corrosion and also dirt particles can block the small openings inside the ABS module. Just something to think about.
