It could be the internal clutches like what happened to Frango's transmission, or TPS. Or something else.... lol. My TPS didn't always throw a CEL code when it went out, only once it started having near constant problems did the CEL come on. If your have an ODBII scanner you can plug it in and view the TPS output as you push the pedal back and forth, if the voltage changes as smoothly/quickly as you push on the pedal it might be ok, if it jumps around a lot it needs replacing. You can also pull the tranny pan and check, if there is a lot of gunk in the bottom the clutches are falling apart. Good luck, hope this helps.
