AZC Climate control question

Hey all, got a question about the AZC system on my 03 GC Limited.

I can turn the heat on and set the temp to, say, 80. It will blow warm air for a while then it will start to get colder, until the warm air will randomly cease. Its interesting that the middle two vents above the AZC unit will blow cold but the vent on the drivers side next to the window will still blow warm. I can adjust the temperature to say 85 and it will start to blow warm again then get cold a short time later. If i set the temp to HI it will always blow hot from all vents and i have not seen it cease to blow hot air.

I hear the actuator working when the temp. knobs are turned in addition to the vent location, floor, etc. When i did a diag check on the AZC it does report errors 52, 53.

My question really comes down to what do you guys think this could be based on what my experiences with this are? Is it really a blend door issue again? Could my AZC unit be going bad and not detecting the cabin temp correctly and just turning the heat off?

Please let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks in advance!

Michael

Re: AZC Climate control question

I would not expect the blend doors to go bad, otherwise it would not go to warm air first. I would say that the problem is with the infra red sensors on the AZC head unit. Did you already reset the diagnostic codes and see if they come back. Just a battery disconnect will errase the memory.

Re: AZC Climate control question

Yeah, the other day I had pulled the IOD fuse and let the system re-calibrate according to the directions from wjjeeps website. No change.

Oh and the other day as well, i noticed the heat would go from warm to cold within minutes back and forth without touching the temp knobs on the cluster.

So you think a faulty AZC then? Anyone else with any input too is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Re: AZC Climate control question

Did you see if the fault codes came back? You can check the IR sensor output via output monitoring and force an output figure to the control head and see if you could get a constant temperature from the vents.
To do this, you will have to be in the test mode. Then with the left temp selector, you can select the pointer number, which is 73 for the left IR sensor and 74 for the right IR sensor. Using the right temperature knob, you can send a temperature signal to the control head and then check what the vent outlet temperature does. If you get a constant temperature from the vents (depending on the selected temperature), then there is something wrong with the IR sensor(s) and or circuits.

Re: AZC Climate control question

Thank you for the tip. I will have to test that when i get a chance. It is not my D/D so i dont always have my hands on it. The Jeep is going to the dealer though for the Airbag Module reprogramming recall or whatever it is on Friday. First things first

Re: AZC Climate control question

I had a issue of my driver side blend door actuator motor failure during winter, i removed the gloce box and removed the motor and manually turned so i had heat, so fast forward to this fall when it clicked in my head i will be needing heat soon, i found a guy parting out a gc w/azc and purchased it. Installed and fixed my problem. Maybe possibly the azc internally crapped like mine.
