AZC problems...

Well.. here we go again. Guess we really have to be Jeep enthousiasts to even bother huh ?
Anyway, here we go :
This is what I got from the AZC self diagnostic :
49 - mode door travel too small
53 - left temperature door travel too small
55 - right temperature door travel too small

Now my thinking is this : Of course all these effing doors could all be busted, but really too coincidental - but then again - as they are ( or are they ? ) vacuum actuated, couldn't it just be a matter of vacuum line fix ? Or electrical if that is the case ?
Then again, googling it 'til my head busts and reading about this common problem sure makes me miss my old 89' Chevy Blazer and the easiness of any D.I.Y !!!!
So. Any tips or ways to fix this, other than a jerry can of gas and a match would be greatly appreciated !!!

The AZC has all electrical actuators. Normally when a door hinge breaks, you get a fault code for travel too large. You can do the calibration first and see if that helps. Forgot about the exact procedure, but you can find it at WJJeeps.com - Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 1999-2004.

Hey Frango... Thanx for pitching in once again.
Anyway, the thing is, had to disconnect the battery for other reasons so presumably it sorta reset the whole damn thing.
I guess I'll look into the calibration thing but...
But : "Travel too small", suggests that its not working at all right ?

"Travel too small" could mean that it doesn´t move, but also that it doesn´t move enough.

You can hear the doors moving when you select a different temperature (low volume, but you can hear it with engine/radio off), so then you know if the actuators do something or not at all.

First of all, Merry X-mas and happy holidays to all !

Update :
I got heat and lots of it, however it seems to fluctaute depending on engine rpm. ( this suggests a somewhat clogged heater core, right ? )
Looking behind the glove compartment I can see the recirc door moving, so this cannot be the cause of the lack of air through my vents, especially from my floor ducts.
Dash board vents works just fine as well as my defroster vents.
So what next ?
Been trying to google this "Mode Door" to find out which one and its location, but the only thing I get is "blend door " - would this be the same thing ? Or is the Mode Door,s function the alternate between AC / Heater ?
Next, my fault codes says "Temperature Doors" - Which one's would this be and their location ?
Got minus 20C right now up here in the land of the Northern Lights, so any further help would be greatly appreciated !!!

Have a great New Year's eve everyone !

Can you see the recirc door behind the glove box door? I thought that only the drivers side blend door was visible there.
The mode door is the one which switches air from windshield to vents to floor. Temperature doors are the blend doors.

Hi Frank, Thanx for your reply !
Yeah, I can see it and it opens and closes just fine.
So the Mode Door is the culprit then... Viewing like hundreds of pics of the WJ heater assembly on Google I got the idea that I might be able to reach and somewhat MacGyver the Mode Door's position through the drivers side floor duct - what do you think of it ?
From the driver's side I can see the actuator linkage move up and down when turning the Mode knob, so presumably the door ar screwed ?
Next - Having error codes on both driver & passenger Temperature Doors is really puzzling me since alternating temperature works just fine by the knobs.
Then again, the codes that I got are all Historical, so maybe there's something more to it than I can see.

Did you do the calibration already? That the mode door travel is too small could mean that there is something stuck inside the HVAC housing, preventing the doors to make full travel. Did you already remove the blower motor and look up maybe with a small inspection mirror to see if there is any foreign material in there. Looking up will show you the recirc door, so maybe you will have to change the position of this door for better view. Historic faults are not important now, so check if there is any current fault.
