Bad Cold Weather Noises

Well, it's turning into winter again and the yearly cold weather noises have arrived. Every year there's new noises and this is no exception. First my front drivers side wheel bearing went out. Meineke diagnosed it and wanted $250 to replace it.
On Friday I'm spending $150 on 2 wheel bearing and replacing both front ones (if you're doing one then you might as well do both).

In the mean time, I've noticed a terrible sounding suspension noise when I crest hills (the ones that kinda flip your stomach) or larger bumps. It's like a grinding/creaking metal sound. It happens most of the time in the back suspension, but also in the front sometimes. To me it sounds like the springs aren't seated correctly. Has anyone else had this problem.

Obviously I'll be looking into it on Friday when I do the wheel bearings. I'm just looking for any suggestions/idea of things to look for before I get under the Jeep.

Re: Bad Cold Weather Noises

That's kinda weird. Doubt its spring related unless you have a broken shock or coil. Sounds like it's happening at full drop though. May u joint issue?

Did the rear end seem to drift to one side when hitting the gas? I think this is what's wrong with our 99 but it's not making any noises.

Re: Bad Cold Weather Noises

slightly, just the constant thumping and grinding when there was not load on it. sure made a difference.

I've thought that it could be the rear ball joint or the control arm bushings, but it's in the front and back.

Re: Bad Cold Weather Noises

Replace the sway bar bushings that will stop the front end noise. As for the rear i would suspect rear ball joint shock bushings or rear sway bar bushings. I replaced my front and rear sway bar bushings last January and haven't heard a peep yet.
