Brake Light

2000 WJ here

My light on the driver side rear works when I turn on the lights, but when I step on the brake the light turns off and the brake light does not come on. Should I try to replace the socket Part #4676589? Or do I need to replace the whole light fixture?

Thanks Guys!!!

Re: Brake Light

Clean up all of your grounds especially the contact rings in the tail light housing

Re: Brake Light

Yeah, do what Cheapjeep said. Also, use a flat head screw driver and raise the little ground tabs a little. I did that and my lights are fine again.

Re: Brake Light

when you say clean all the grounds, do you mean twist off the socket and clean all the metal? Also what should I use to clean the grounds, wire brush or certain grit sand paper?

Re: Brake Light

I had the same issue yesterday. Just removed the socket, bend the metal tabs a bit out and, voila, working again. If you want to clean the contacts, i would use contact cleaner or a very fine sanding paper if the contacts where really corroded.

Re: Brake Light

Much thanks, just did the same contact cleaning/metal raising with a screwdriver, and now both lights (both sides) are working again fine.
Thank you.
