Broke the O/D Button

Installed a new amp and had pulled out the centre console to do so.
When reinstalling the centre console I applied way too much pressure do so cause I thought it was a good idea and watched the O/D button pop off the gear stick.
The button did not appear broken and I simply pushed it back into the cavity but now I cannot turn the over drive off.I'm assuming it's still on as the light on the dash isn't on.

Can anyone advise if there is a real need to fix this or is there a simple solution to fixing the over drive button?

Sounds a lot better now...........

Re: Broke the O/D Button

Even if the OD was switched off, as soon as you would switch ignition OFF/ON, it would reset to the default setting OD ON. Did not some other internal part of the switch pull out together with the knob?
You could drive like this forever, but will not be able to switch the OD OFF, which could be bad in case of towing or steep climbing.
There is a more or less simple solution for the OD switch, but that means to change the whole shift lever assy

Re: Broke the O/D Button

Yeah, maybe I missed a spring that could have been in with the switch.
I still have the spare WJ, but I really didn't want to pop the button out if there is a chance that I will break sometime to make it come out.
Will be moving shortly and towing my boat from one end of Australia to the other so on your thoughts it looks lie I will have to give it a go.

Thanks again Frank
