Bypass Security Key Chip

I just bought my first Jeep (2003 Grand Cherokee) a couple weeks ago and it only came with 1 key. I went to the hardware store and had another made b/c it didn't look like they have a chip in the key. Put it in, turned it on, and it won't stay started (little "no key" illuminates on the gauges).

On my old Mustang I was able to bypass the PATS system (security system that required the chip). Does anyone know how to bypass this system? Or can someone give me a detailed description of what it's doing?

Damn I don't think you can start it without a programmed chipped key...

Re: Bypass Security Key Chip

you will have to get the right key and take it to the dealer to get programmed to your truck. its like 45 bucks to have them just program it. if you have two programed keys you can program up to like 8 your self. but you have to have two keys allready programed to do it yourself. the first two are dealer only... if you loose keys alot i suggest hitting up ebay ordering a few and doing them yourself after you get the first two. that way you have them lol

Re: Bypass Security Key Chip

I know that you're suppose to have a chipped key. Really, that's not my question (not asking how to program the key). I'm asking if anyone knows how to bypass that security system.

My old Mustang had the same type of thing (supposed to have a chipped key or it won't start). But, I simply bypassed the system to I could have a spare key for $3 from Lowes.

I guess I'm asking if anyone has a wiring diagram of the security system or entire ignition system. Eventually I would like to make it push button ignition so this system has to go.

Re: Bypass Security Key Chip

You need to talk to a decent alarm installer in your area. With a lot of remote starts/alarm systems that are aftermarket but installed on the WJ, a sort of bypasser module has to be put into place to allow the truck to go through all its normal functions without a real sentry key in place. It is very possible, however not easy at all. Talk to a few local installers, explain to them you have the chrysler/jeep immobilizer .. there's always ways to bypass it but in my opinion, it'd be cheaper to just cough up the money for the key from the dealer, sorry bro! It's extra safety though, makes our WJ's that much harder to steal.

Exactly like that. The only thing you would have to do is wire a toggle switch to it in addition to this kit.

Since it's made to work with an alarm you would have to send a signal (Probably a ground) to let it know that it's okay to send the bypass signal. Just like an alarm would do to make it work.

Wouldn't be hard to install as it would tap into the CAN BUS system. Without a wire diagram for the module itself I can't tell you anything further, but it can be done.

Re: Bypass Security Key Chip

Your key sends a signal to a SKIM (Security Key Immobilization Module) via a sensor pick up wire (antenna). One way to get around having to use the key might be to strap the key to the module under the dash so that it is always sensed. Then you can use any type of starting system that you want to. Good Luck ...
