cant find the engine number 4.7L Grand

This may seem dumb but I have bought a 4.7L V8 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo and cant find the engine number to have the registration transfered. Can anyone point me to the right location before I start stripping stuff off to find it?

Martin, Australia

Hello Martin,

Maybe you have found your number already, if not, maybe this helps a bit. When i bought mine i had the same problem. Its not so easy, but you can see it looking from below the car. Its on the right front lower side of the engine block. (see attachment)

Re: cant find the engine number 4.7L Grand

Can't find my engine number on my Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8.
It is not in the area as shown in the above diagram (right side forward)
I have cleaned and viewed the entire side and can't find anything.
There are no machined surfaces that usually present where numbers are stamped in fact where the diagram shows the numbers it still shows the sand casting marks, the same as the rest of the block. I have looked under the mounts also.
Is it possible that they come without stamping and if so how am I going to get this through for rego as they require a visual?
Thanks
Ian

Re: cant find the engine number 4.7L Grand

I have good visual of the right side forward section.
There is no stamping in that area.
I have heard that some had engine numbers copied from the VIN and stickered on somewhere, is this true?
Cheers

Are you looking at the drivers side of the engine block?
