Maybe I'm all wet but an oil with metal (zinc) in it seems counterproductive. I can't say anything about the 4.0 specifically but I haven't seen a modern vehicle (1990 and newer) that called for anything but 5w30 ...as far as the oil filter lots of guys like the k&n because it has a 1" nut on it and doesn't require a filter wrench to remove it

Take into mind the 4.0 dates back way before '90.

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Zinc is used in all engine oils. It is in fact not only Zinc, but Zinc DialkylDithiophosphates or ZDDP. Its an anti wear additive, because it reduces the metal to metal contact of the engine parts. Newer oils have less zinc, because zinc can do harm to the catalytic converter.
Older engines need more Zinc then newer generation engines, so it probably is an advantage for the 4.0 engine, but will reduce the life of the catalytic converter.

Picked up the rotella t5 today...forgot how much of a pita Walmart was.

Looked at my oil gauge for the first time today(not even kidding), and its on high...thought it was supposed to be in the middle? Anyways, I guess it doesn't matter considering I'm changing the oil next week. Shall I get K&N, royal purple, or pureone filter...

As far as i know there is zinc in all engine oils, but in limited amounts. Especially for race engines they use higher amounts of zinc.

Is the power steering fluid supposed to be under pressure?

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Depends where you look at it, logically the steering pump will pressurize it for the powersteering to work. In the reservoir it could build up a bit of pressure due to thermal expansion.

Is it oily ? Can you tell what color it is ? Based solely on location in reference to the car I would guess transfer case but isn't yours 2wd ? As far as the oil pressure the gauge appears to have a low/high face indicating its just a pass/fail notifier. How is the oil level? What does the oil look like ? Is it foamy? Is the coolant tank oily ?

Found this...a bunch of solid information regarding engine oil and particularly ZDP levels in it...

Great info hacksaw, but ya know what, I have faith in the rotella!

Ok, so.

Couldn't tell if the liquid was oily today, as it was raining outside. BUT. I could see stained spots from yesterday's dripping on my driveway! My jeep is a 4WD, selectrac. I don't really know how to read the dipstick...no clear markings to be found. Oil does not appear to be foamy. Coolant does not appear to be oily.
