You can test the gauge doing the instrument self test: with ignition switch in OFF, push the odometer reset knob and while pushing, switch the ignition in run (no start). All the indicator lights come on, the odometer counts 00000, 11111 etc and the indicators go to full scale and back to normal indication. As soon as the test starts, you can release the odometer knob. You could eventually remove the connector of the oil pressure sending unit, but it will probably set a fault code, which has to be reset afterwards with a scanner.
But its almost every time the oil pressure sending unit which is faulty.
