Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Just remove the connector and use a spanner or socket and turn it counter clockwise to get loose. A little oil will probably spill out, but not too much. Do it on a cold engine, so that you wonīt burn hands/arms and the oil will be sunken away. Take care that you get the 3 pin oil pressure sensor and not the 2 pin oil pressure switch. When i bought mine i didnīt know that there where different types and the guy just sold me the 3 pin sensor, while the 2004 needs a 2 pin switch.

I'm gonna remove the sender unit and clean it before I buy a new one, runnin sorta low on cash right now. Thinking about what I should clean it with....

Also. Should I be worried about the creaking my car makes when shifting from let's say park to drive or to reverse? The noise usually comes after I shift, and start to let go of the brakes.

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

You could try to clean the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner, you never know. But most of the time the sensor itself is bad.
The creaking sound it makes, does it (seems to be) coming from the tranny? It could have to do with the driveline, some play on a drive shaft joint or even from the brakes themselves. Difficult to tell without hearing it from closeby. Maybe a soundclip could help.

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

the creaking is likely the brakes, not a big deal, you can probably recreate the noise just by letting the car creep slowly forward while in gear and gradualy letting off the brake pedal

Yup, I'm pretty positive that's it.

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Replaced the oil today with rotella t5 10w30 and a royal purple oil filter, and at the start it was ticking a bit with the engine on. Let it run for a bit, and now there is no tick, the engine sounds great, and the oil is right above the "SAFE" on the dipstick. Should i be worried at all?

If its in the "safe" zone I wouldn't worry but would watch the level.

Think Outside !- No Box Required.

What would the safe zone be? I am over the safe label, if only by a little bit.

Still ticks a little on cold start up, but after that its gone.

Unfortunately can't read the pressure...oil pressure gauge is broken.

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Can someone explain to me why the oil I removed was virtually black, while the rotella I put in was like a very light, translucent brown?

Safe zone is above the line. Oil color is because the old oil is dirty...

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

During the use of the engine oil, it gets mixed with blowby gasses, which pass along the piston rings. Those gasses are formed by the burned fuel/air mixture from the combustion chamber.
When i was still living in Holland, i was driving a car which was using LPG. The oil from that engine came out after 10.000 Km almost with the same colour as it went in. Also the ignitor plugs almost didnīt change colour from new. The contrary was valid for an other car i had with a diesel engine. The oil in there was already black after a few thousand Km.
