Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Driving just 5 miles is a little bit too short to make conclusions regarding the fuel use. After a whole tank and mixed driving ( highway and city) you could make a good conclusion.
Tapping sound is normally the hydraulic valve lash adjusters which loose some of the oil. This normally silences down after warming up.

Alright, sounds good. Still haven't fully figured out the oil level...I think I need to get a new oil pressure sender. But I still haven't found the exact location on the block...if I have, man, it is way down there. Pretty difficult to reach.

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

He, i thought you said that you had found the sensor? Its just mounted to the block, at the same height and just aft of the oil filter. It has a 3 wire connector to it

Found it. I should just unscrew by hand, correct?

The connector you remove by hand, but the sensor itself you will have to remove using a high socket.

Alright, can't be too bad. Will order a new one tonight.

Still got a bit of lifter tick...too much oil?

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Was the lifter tick not there before? Sometimes other brand of oil will give different engine noises, even with the same viscosity. Found that out after using a different brand of oil in my 4.7. I could not find any explanation why this happened.
Being the oil level just an itsie bit above the full mark shouldn't do any harm. When its really too high, the crankshaft counterweights will run in the oil and mix air in the oil, making it foamy. Foamy oil, when sucked up by the oil pump, will lower the pressure, due to the air which is compressable. But then the level really has to be too high.

No there was no tick before. Again, the tick only stays for like 5 minutes after startup, and then it's gone. Also, there's a little bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust...

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

When does smoke come out of the exhaust? All the time, or only when the engine is cold, or when accelerating/decelerating? What color, white, blue, black?

It's kind of a grayish. Only when the engine is cold. I'm positive it's not condensation, it looks different.

Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

Ordered the PS317 oil pressure switch. Hopefully it helps me resolve the lifter tick, I really want it to go away.

Re: Can't get my wj outta 4lo?

You mean that by changing the sensor that you can.see the real oil pressure and at least know that the pressure is ok, right? Because by changing the sensor it will not.change anything regarding the lifter tick
