Well i re registered my vehicle back in NY and i need an inspection sticker. Wouldn't you know it, my check engine light goes on the day before i go to get the inspection. Mechanic says i need to replace a few sensors which i already did. He states i also need to flash the computer. Ok what does that mean, and how can i do it?
Just unhook your battery for a few minutes then see if your check engine light goes out. I think he meant to reset the computer. Some states wont pass a car if the check engine light is on.
Unplugging the battery should clear the code until the computer has enough data to figure out the problem is still there. Did you try to see what the code was with the key on-off sequence trick? It should point you in the right direction. If not try an obd scanner; Auto Zone on Northern blvd will loan you one, if that's no help send me a pm I have one and am in the same neighborhood
Unplugging the battery will reset the CEL but you can't go right back to get it inspected after you reset the CEL.. When they hook up their machine it will show the computer was just reset.. They won't pass you until a certain code goes away.. The computer has to go through certain protocols for this to happen..
True I just had a code rest and went to have it inspected and the failed it because the computer saw that it had been reset or the battery removed. The said I had to drive it to let the computer reset does anyone no how long it takes for the computer to reset?
