Can't remove key from ignition

I had to move the jeep about a 100 feet to mow the yard. When I turned it off, the key won't rotate back to the full off position so I can remove it. I didn't buckle up just to move it across the yard....could this be some anti theft thing going on? I tried re-starting the car with my seatbelt buckled & it didn't change anything....the key is still stuck in the lock. How do I get around this?

Re: Can't remove key from ignition

The problem is most probably a misrigged Park/lock cable of the BTSI system (brake transmission shift interlock). See attached the rig procedure.
You are sure that you didnīt move the ignition switch too far to ACC position, because then the key also canīt be removed.

Re: Can't remove key from ignition

Mystery solved. The rubber cover of the button on the front of the gear shifter had come loose and prevented the button from fully seating when shifting into park. That tricked the car into thinking the care wasn't in park, although it would still start. Once I repositioned the rubber cover all was well & I could hear the click of the release.
