Angry central locking any ideas ?

Gday anyone have any idea why central locking is only unlocking drivers door ?
was all fine then only sometimes ,then never, wish tailgate was keyed ! neither remote or door button unlocks doors any ideas ???
Thanks Scott.
ps all windows mirrors work fine no growling noise coming from locks just the click from the driver side lock engaging/disengaging.

Re: central locking any ideas ?

On my WJ, the default setting is unlock once will unlock drivers door and unlock twice will unlock all doors. There is a setting in the overhead console that will allow you to unlock all doors with one press on the remote.

Re: central locking any ideas ?

This sounds as a broken wire problem. Can you lock/unlock all doors using the passengers lock/unlock switch? The system is divided in the drivers door module, which only switches the drivers door lock motor, and the passengers door module, which switches all other 3 doors and liftgate lock motors. The passenger door module also has the receiver for the remote locking/unlocking function. Many times problems occur due to a broken wire in the rubber door boot, so i would start having a look at both front door boots. Also a loose connector/wire on the passenger door module could be your problem. If this is ok, you would need a DRB III scanner to look for faults.

Re: central locking any ideas ?

Yeah Frank i did have a quick look at door wire boots and found that a previous owner has cut into both boots and some shoddy repairs have been done to loom maybe the same problem existed previously, the drivers door switch will only unlock drivers door at present will check further maybe by the sounds of it starting at passenger side door and keep ya posted thanks for your help mate you seem to know your way around a jeep.
Scott.

Re: central locking any ideas ?

I like to troubleshoot problems of my car and normally never bring my car in for a repair. ( its out of service already for almost 4 weeks in a tranny shop waiting for a part)
Because all of the power lock motors connected to the Passenger Door Module (PDM) are not working, the problem can also be 1 shorted lock/unlock motor.
You did try to lock/unlock using the passenger side switch, didnīt you?
If you are sure that the wires in the boots are ok (check them not only with your eyes, but try to bend them as well, because it can be that the wire is internally broken, while the isolation is still intact.), then you probably have to disconnect each lock/unlock motor at a time (not the drivers one ofcourse) and try if it will work after disconnecting one by one. If yes, you have found your shorted lock motor. There can also be a short in one of the wires in the doors. If all this doesnīt help, i would measure all wires to see if there is not one shorted.
