Chassis Lube. Seals bad??

I'll admit it, I have neglected to lubricate the chassis for a long time. I always forget about it when I have the front wheels off. Well, I took them off to plastidip them yesterday and I finally remember to lube them up.

I hooked up to the nipple and gave it about 3 slow pumps and grease started coming out the bottom. Is that normal or are the seals bad? It happened on both the right and left sides.

Here's where it came out:

Thanks for the help. Oh...and here's the WJ with the plastidipped wheels:

Re: Chassis Lube. Seals bad??

Thats normal that the grease comes out from there. I always let quite a bit come out, so that iīm sure that any old grease/dirt is out and the joint is completely filled with fresh clean grease. Donīt forget to clean it afterwards. What kind of grease did you use?
The wheels look good by the way.

Re: Chassis Lube. Seals bad??

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I used Mystik JT-6 Multi-Purpose No. 2 Grease from Walmart because that is all I had. I'm sure it's not the best but I figured it's better than nothing. Is the NGLI Grade 2 the ONLY recommended grease or is any #2 fine?

Edit: found elsewhere on the forum that pretty much any #2 multi purpose is fine. Here's the link that what I used...http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mystik-JT-...rease/17128828

Re: Chassis Lube. Seals bad??

Nice job on the wheels, the jeep looks bad ass!

Like Frank said its normal that some grease will squeeze out around the joint, and like him I too keep pumping it in until I see clean grease start to come out. That mystik will probably be ok but I'm a believer in big name lubes, like Valvoline, Mobil, or Amsoil. According to wjjeeps.com a good NLGI #2 EP GC-LB grease should be used.

Re: Chassis Lube. Seals bad??

I'll pick up some brand-name stuff next time I'm at the auto parts store.
Thanks on the wheels.
My wife told me, "no more black after this, you're obsessed with black! We don't need another blacked-out vehicle!"

I told her it's still half-white...unlike my motorcycle:
