I posted a couple weeks ago about what I thought was a rear end noise that we had narrowed down to the rear upper ball joint and/or control arm. I've had the vehicle at the shop this week & they don't see any serious wear on those parts & the rest of the suspension looks great right now.
They think it's coming from the transfer case (selec-trac model) since it can be felt from the driver seat. The bumping noise first occured going over larger bumps, & has gotten progressively worse to where it now grinds/clunks when you take off from a stop along with hitting smaller bumps. Any ideas? By the way I inspected all the u-joints & there was no movement, no missing retaining rings, no cracks, nothing but average wear. Thanks in advance for any advice you have.
Check the rear differential for low fluid. Just check to see in case. Then check the Transfer Case Fluid. How you done any maintenance on the Transfer Case since you owned it?
I changed the t-case fluid last spring, the diffs I will be changing shortly. The thing that gets me is it sounds just like when the ball joints go bad, but that's not the problem. What about the input or output shaft off the t-case?
hey i had the same problem with my 2004 wj... i took it to a shop and they also said it was the transfer case, so i switch it out myself and it still made the same noise...so i noticed my cross member was bent from playing in the mountains..so i replaced it and noises went away...another problem could be you rubber mount the connects the tranny to the cross member could be bad.. hope this helps
I´m newbie on GC world, and I´m afraid I need some help here... The rubber mount that goes between the tranny and the crossmember oj my WJ is miserable, but I cannot find this part on the service manual. Would you guys happen to have the part number of it? Tks a lot!
you talking about the transmission mont. go to rockauto.com and look up what year and what jeep you have then click on the transmission tab then tranny mount. take a look at the pic and see if thats what you are talking about. i also was wondering if it was supposed to be a solid rubber in the middle or if there was a gap any where mine has a gap i think mine is bad.
Weird... the round rubber that I have in my car is a round horizontal part... I´ll try to take a picture of it... Well, mine is a 3.1 TD CG.. But I guess these parts should be the same.. will check and revert. thanks!
your trans mount is different from the gas wj's, take a jack and try jacking up the trans before the mount and see if it seperates, be careful cause if you jack it up to far you could damage it.. good luck
