Condensation in Wheel Well

Don't know if it's just a tropical thing, but my wheel well sweats something chronic. Lifting the cover reveals enough water in the base to leave a ring mark.
As a rule of thumb I wipe it out weekly but I am slowly getting the shits doing this.
Curious to know if this happens with anyone else in a tropic environment and how they get around it?
The only up side to this is that if I break down in the desert, I have my own rain maker in the boot.........haha

Re: Condensation in Wheel Well

Water condenses in there because its not ventilated. You can vent it somehow, drill a drain hole, or seal it up tight and use a desiccant product to absorb moisture such as damp-rid.

Re: Condensation in Wheel Well

Thanks Cheapjeep / Yadkin,
Yep, there are a few options to the problem and I'm inclined to think it's condensation given the fact that my jeep has been under covers during the last downpour (4 inches in a hour).
Looks like vent holes for me, just need to figure out where to put them to get the best results.

Re: Condensation in Wheel Well

You can vent it through the interior cover if you can find appropriate louvers that would work, but that would entail cutting holes. I'd suggest trying to isolate it first. That way if it doesn't work you don't have ugly holes to repair.

You could glue a plastic sheet to the underside of the cover, use a soft foam gasket around the large opening to seal it then use a damp rid product like you'd use for a closet.

Re: Condensation in Wheel Well

I'm in a position to play with how to achieve a good result.
I have a spare vehicle so if I screw up the first cover then I'll get another chance to get it right.
Got my hands on a sheet of black amplimesh for my grille so will see if there will be enough to create a vent.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Condensation in Wheel Well

I never have seen this on my jeep. Are the weather seals of the tail gate ok?
At least you can take a bath during your trips.
