i just got back from walmart, got a high mileage oil change with a gift card i had.

here are my questions

1. i was forced to walk around for about 40 minutes and picked up a few things. STP 0-60 octane booster and STP gas treatment. My tank is a little over half full. my question is, if i put both of these in right now will it be too harsh on my engine?

2. My head unit has been telling me for the last ,month or so to perform service. I figured it wanted to get an oil change, because it was about that time. However when i started my car again after my oil change, it is still saying i need to perform service. whats going on here? and also it is telling me im only getting 10mpg. why is that? i should be getting atleast 15 in the city and 26 hwy.

can someone help me here?

did you reset the oil change interval warning ?

that's the only thing I can come up with ... the octane boost some say it's good some say it doesn't do sh1t but pour it when the tank is almost empty so it can mix with the fresh fuel ... I've tried it didn't notice a difference maybe urs will be different

it says on the bottle to do it when the tank is atleast halfull..i put the gas treatment in. i will wait for a few more responses before i put in the 0-60

#1 It would be best to fill the gas tank before using any additives, if you read the label it will probably say how many gallons of gas per bottle of additive.

#2 You need to reset the "perform service" by holding the reset button for a few seconds. You can reset the average mpg the same way.

it worked for the "perform service" but not for the mpg. Maybe if i restart it it will go back to normal?

If you still haven't put the 2nd bottle in, take it back for a refund. Otherwise you might as well toss your money in the nearest trash can next time. Just run good gas of the proper octane and forget about the additives. If you must put something in your gas tank, go with a fuel injector cleaner like Lucas or SeaFoam.

As for the perform service reminder, it is simply based on miles traveled since the last time it was reset. The mileage interval can be changed too. It is really nothing more than a visual reminder that it has been X miles since the last time the thing was reset. It is not as if the vehicle is checking the status of your oil and reporting that it is dirty enough to need changed. ;)
