HI guys,

Since the time I bought the Jeep, it was having issues with its central lock mechanism through the remote. I replaced the booster unit on the rear glass, replaced the radio amplifier and the radio worked again. One thing still does not work as it should was the alarm/fob system. It doesn't have the normal range of other jeeps, and works only when you approach the fob near the passenger door and press lock/unlock. This is really annoying guys, appreciate real input to what needs to be done for me to have the normal range again.

Thanks
Danny

I assume that you already changed the key fob battery?
The antenna cable for the remote lock/unlock system is soldered to the passengers side door control module. The RF unit is part of this module. It can be that the antenna wire is broken/loose from the circuit board. I would have a look at the passenger door module and check the wire.
I have heard from people putting an other/longer wire on it, but never heard about the results of this test.
I must say that the range from my key fob depends on some factors. Sometimes inside a garage it works from 20 meters away (60 ft), and sometimes outside i really have to point towards the passenger door and be almost next to the jeep.

Hi Frank, I tried to find some pictures of the door wiring pertaining to the antenna but couldn't find anything. I also checked the wiring inside the door and couldn't identify anything out of the ordinary. Is there any know how doc or pictures of the process? Have you ever tackled this issue in your own jeep?

No, never had to deal with this myself, i just red about it.
But is there not a small wire coming out of the passengers door module, which is just hanging free?

The wire should be coming out of the passenger door module. Its the module which contain the window and door lock switches.

Are you sure that the wire solder on the circuit board is ok? No crack in the circuit board or a bad circuit on the board? If all ok, you could first try to re-route the wire and see if the range changes. I don´t know if the wire is suppost to be hanging down, or if it was fixed in a certain position. There can be a difference in the range, positioning it horizontal or vertical.
