Damn 2000 WJ

After the pains of the brakes, I thought all would be plain sailing from now on
Driving up the M6 yesterday, lots of holdups and accidents, lots of stop start, anyway just after we got past all the problems, i noticed that my temp gauge was reading high, just the traffic I thought, pressed on for 1/2 mile and it was still going up. Pulled of at the next road junction and pulled to a stop just as the check gauges came on and waited for it to cool down with the engine off.
Lost coolant, brought out the RAC, he filled it up, did a pressure test and a hydro carbons test, all passed, followed me for 10 miles on the way home, temp never moved from just before mid level. Rest of way home temp was steady apart from a 10 minute time when it rose to just above halfway, but 10mins later went back down.
Do I have a duff coolant system or is it a one off?

Anyone want to buy a Jeep?

Re: Damn 2000 WJ

dang dude, not sure what the problem is but my 2000 likes to run a little hot on summer days as well. I just found out that I need new ball joints, knuckles, rear main seals, and an axle boot. Our rides are starting to show their ages, huh?

Re: Damn 2000 WJ

Did the coolant level suddenly drop, or didn´t you check it lately? Have a close look the next days for any leak or that the level goes down again. Don´t let this engine overheat, because its infamous to warp heads and/or to cause head gasket leaks.

Re: Damn 2000 WJ

maybe check the front passenger floor compartment make sure you dont have a hole in your heater core. i had one for almost a year before i found it. i kept lossing just a small amount of coolant an my temp would rise a bit. i beleave it was rising because of a air bubble. just a little thought. a heater core really isnt fun to change out in our beloved jeeps lol...

have you checked to make sure your hydro fan is running an running strong when she gets hot? mine will really kick in when the mark gets right over the mid mark. i havent had another coolant problem since the new core so i dont see my temp get over that mark now.

Re: Damn 2000 WJ

I think that if the problem would be the cooling fan, that the temperature would have risen to the warning level before, and not after 1/2 mile normal airflow through the radiator. The temperature should have gone down already and not up. There should be some leak somewhere and as Josef said, check the heater core first. How much had to be refilled to be at the full level?

Re: Damn 2000 WJ

It had to be refilled a lot, 6-8 litres!

Re: Damn 2000 WJ

6-8 Lts out of a total of 13 Lts, thats quite a lot. There must be a reasonable leak to loose such an amount. Did you see anything sofar?

Re: Damn 2000 WJ

+1 on heater core, you wont see it leaking unless you look in the passenger foot well all the way up the top on the plastic stuff, you'll see the coolant and wet spots there
