Dilemma: Trade In or Sell, but....

So I have to say goodbye to my beloved WJ soon and move to a larger towing SUV. Around two months ago, I took it to my mechanic for a knocking noise that occurred on start up but disappears when warm. He thinks it's a cracked piston.

I was planning on selling it for around $4K (223,000 miles, great shape with minor cosmetic issues and very little rust). But with this engine issue, is it worthless? Is it better to trade it in and get what I can for it?

With under lying moto being shot value is next to nothing.

I purchased my 4.7 for $500 with bad head gasket. Since then cost me more then hookers

So I tried some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas tank (just had an oil change so missed my opportunity there) and the sound is almost gone. Is it sticky lifters?

Leaning twords that yes.

I have the tick also and that's even with 10w40

Next oil change put some trans oil in engine oil and let idle to do a flush.
I perform this every other change

Probably won't have it that long! New vehicle in the next few weeks so now that the noise is gone, the Jeep is going up for sale!

Thank you for your help!

Hey Kiddo! My advice is sell it .The dealers don't want it 'cause of the age and miles. You'll be lucky if ya get $2k from them. I tried trading my 04 with 77k on it in '13 and they really didn't want it but would give me $5k for it. I laughed and left. I did way ,way better on CL. Good luck girl!
