DIY...I'm STUCK!!!

Hello Jeep Buds,

I'm new here, have read through some threads in the past out of curiosity but now I need help!!! Also, I'm not sure what the initials WJ etc stand for at each forum, so I just went with the year range...apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place.

Vehicle: 2002 Grand Cherokee, 4WD, 112,000 mi.

Problem: Pulley on A/C Compressor went out causing belt to jump.

Solution: DIY I replaced the compressor this afternoon.

New Problem: After changing out the compressor, buttoned her all up, went to fire it up...cranks great but will not start.

Caveat: Being the dumbass I am, I didn't disconnect the battery until AFTER I was prying out the old compressor and touched against the red wire on the alternator! Brought my oversight to my attention quickly.

So, I've checked all of the fuses...all seem find. Now, the ones under the hood, next to the battery, some are black squares and I can't tell. So what I did was just process of elimination moving them around and trying to start.

I'm really at a loss here. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, but I do have common sense (despite leaving the battery connected). I've tried troubleshooting everything I can think of.

Any help? Thanks Guys, Gals.

Ron

Try the key dance Ron (on/off/on/off/on)and see if it is showing any codes now. The black boxes are relays and are probably ok. I would double check all of the big maxi fuses (clear top) in there though.

Re: DIY...I'm STUCK!!!

Yessss, you are at the right forum, WJ is the Grand Cherokee from 1999 to 2004.
There is a fusible link between the alternator and battery, which can have melted, but i donīt see why the engine wouldnīt start in that case.
How was the short made, between the alternator red wire and which ground path?
You can have fried some electronic component from the PCM for example.
