Re: Dome lights dont turn off al the way

since the LEDs use a resistor, which stores up energy, they will stay dim, that happened with my turn signals

Re: Dome lights dont turn off al the way

the reason is the led need much less power. the glow after ou turn off the lights is the residual power in the circuit.

you can either leave one bulb in.......or add some resistance.

i am no elecrtical wiz, have no idea about what resistance is needed, '

so i left the one bulb in the hatch factory.

one thought for you OP; next time you post a question please post ALL the facts. you are asking for help but not giving ALL the info.

Re: Dome lights dont turn off al the way

I just got my order of LEDs and plan on getting started installing soon. Does anyone know if 1 resistor on 1 LED bulb will eliminate the "dim on" issue? Or will I have to put resistors on every stinkin' interior LED bulb?

Neither of these are really correct. There's no stored power or residual power in the circuit. If there was, the lights would go out completely within a couple seconds of closing the doors.

It happens b/c a halogen bulb is basically resistor that's burning so hot it glows (simplified explanation). When you take out this resistance and replace it with an LED, you lower the impedance of the circuit (basically, lower the resistance seen by the battery). The combination of lower circuit impedance and the fact that LEDs opperate on MUCH less current causes current to flow and illuminate the LEDs.

The simplest way to stop this is to find a zenor diode and put it in series. Once the voltage drops below a given value, it will stop the flow of electricity.

Re: Dome lights dont turn off al the way

while my why may be wrong, to me its solving the issue.

while you OBVIOUSLY understand electricity this makes sense to you "The simplest way to stop this is to find a zenor diode and put it in series." However, to us peeps that do NOT understand electrical theory this "The simplest way to stop this is to find a zenor diode and put it in series" makes NO SENSE.

so if you really wish to help, please provide us the practical solution in plain english that the electrical newbie can understand.

thanks in advance.

I don't know how your LEDs are hooked up. From my understanding, most people here buy from V-LEDs. Can you post a picture of what the connectors look like for the LEDs?

Yes please explain the zenor diode and where you would install...only one required for the entire elec. system?

Re: Dome lights dont turn off al the way

Can someone help with this too? I have the same issue where the overhead lights won't turn off completely. They dim but refuse to shut off. I too was trying, key word, trying to change out my halogens with LEDs and I see other people where able to so can someone point me in the right direction with where to get the perfect fit bulb or how to fix the problem I have at hand. HELP!
