Dome lights won't go off! Help!

Hey, I have a 2000 WJ limited. Today after opening the rear hatch and glass to replace a burned out tail light, the lights mounted in the ceiling will not turn off. All the lights in the dome, and the lights in the roof above the doors stay on constantly. Any suggestion? any help or comments are appreciated!

Is the instrument dim switch in full bright? Do they go out when you put the instrument dim switch completely in dim?
Are power windows/locks working normally? The opening of the rear hatch could be a coincidence. Many times the black ground wire in the drivers door boot breaks and causes all this to happen.

everything else is completely normal. even the lights in the doors function as they should. When i turn the switch to completely dim they flicker but stay on.

Did you push the rear dome light lens? It's also a switch to turn the dome lights on and off.

I did not. I have tried pushing it to toggle them on and off now, but to no avail. for now i have removed the F7 fuse to keep the lights from draining my battery down. Hoping that this is a switch or a ground and not a BCM issue

Re: Dome lights won't go off! Help!

Fuse 7 is the direct feed for the BCM. So or indeed the BCM has a problem, or maybe an input to the BCM. But if for example a door switch was hanging, the BCM should still switch the lights off after a certain time, which is about 5 min. i think. Did you wait that long (or even a bit longer) to see if the lights would go out by itself?

They do go off after a time. So it looks like one if the doors is reading as open. I took a look at the ground to drivers door. It has already been jumped by a previous owner. How can I check the door switches?

Re: Dome lights won't go off! Help!

The EVIC should show a door message when a door is open, so have a look at this first. I think it should show you exactly which door switch stays in open position.
