Electric cooling fan problems again

The fan has stopped running again on our 2000 GC w/ 4.0L. It had a new fan & module on it when I bought it, but the module was bad. I replaced it & it seemed to be ok. Now, the fan isn't running again.....I assume it's the module.

I'm thinking about adding a circuit & switch & run the fan directly during the summer months. Any opinions?
thanks,
Mike S

Yep that or the Fan is out..

Problem is as the fan ages it may require more Amps to get it in spinning.

the Relay is rated for 40Amps.

if your going to run directly it's going to run full blast and you'll need some decent wire and relay and switch to power it on.

Re: Electric cooling fan problems again

I would check by hand if the fan is spinning freely. The pulse width modulated relays on the 99-03 WJ´s gave many problems, and in 04 they replaced the PWM relay with two separate hi and lo speed relays in the PDC under the hood.
Did you use an original Mopar relay?

Re: Electric cooling fan problems again

The fan was brand new when I bought the car in 2014. I did check and it does turn freely.
No it was an aftermarket module.

I think I'm going to add a relay circuit (I work for a company that makes automotive relays) & switch and be done with it. I figure from June thru September I'll just leave it on. All I have to do now is to figure out a good place to put the switch.

I would make sure you have a Good battery and good alternator it inrushes at around 45ish AMPS dc then drops to 38-40amp running.

I can flip the switch on my override and watch rpm's drop and then bounce back up and volt drop from 14 to 13.2 then back to 14

Basically the 4.0L you can buy an 05 Durango 4.7 Alt at 160Amp direct swap I did it on one i had.
