Electrical question on a 99' WJ

Got the following email from a friend and other than telling him to be sure the battery and ground straps are in good shape, I am at a total loss. Any ideas what might be going on with this WJ?

While visiting my parents they where telling that their jeeps lights flash for no reason. They flash like when you hit the remote button. Doors do not unlock or lock when it happens. I saw this happen a few moments ago head lights, brake lights and interior lights came on for second and off again. Other the being haunted you have any ideas.

Sounds like the controll knob or connector for it. All of those functions are controlled by the same knob.

As far as the brake lights coming on they may have just been the rear indicator lights.

Thanks! I'll pass that along and hopefully they can get it figured out before too long.

Does their Jeep have an auto setting on the headlight control? Like this

If so tell them to take it off the auto position and just start turning them on & off manually.

Re: Electrical question on a 99' WJ

Joe take this for what its worth cause its like 3rd or 4th hand info but I've heard stories of WJs doing this when one of the remote's batteries are going dead and it's still in range of the vehicle. Who knows

Re: Electrical question on a 99' WJ

The position of the switch is detected by the PCM because of resistance values in a certain range across the headlamp switch sense wires. I seem to remember a TSB on this because the auto headlight resistance was really close to something else and something little would throw it off. Newer switches/parts should have improved distancing between the resistance values

Thanx for the info. I just noticed this occurring on the WJ that I bought the other day. I was afraid someone was about to steal it.
