It won't kick in if you are stopped idling. I've never had it kick in at speeds lower than about 30 MPH, and I've had it active at speeds up to about 72 MPH. Jeep says it will activate at anywhere between 40 and 60 MPH I think.

Re: Engine knocking

I think it's ok for the engine to idle but if you look at your service schedule "long idle periods" fall under service schedule B .. which calls for more frequent service of the vehicle. And why put a remote start that lets the engine idle up to 15 minutes if it's bad for the engine?

You guys are misinformed about MDS.. it doesn't activate below 20 mpg and I've "heard" it working all the way up to 80 mph.. It doesn't work at idle.

^^^ This is for the 2007 though.. I do know that the MDS was revised to work in a wider range to utilize it's efficiency. The 05-06 MDS system only works between 40-60 mph and I'm sure the range could be extended with a reflash... you just have to know the right tech.

That is pretty much what I just said about MDS lol. My MDS on my 05 (when I had it enabled) would kick in at speeds as slow as 25 MPH. I think I could only get to 71-72 and keep it enabled. This was bone stock.

And I agree with you on the idling thing.

Re: Engine knocking

My 3.7 does a knocking noise as well. I only hear it when standing near the front passenger doors though and usually goes away as the car warms up. Not sure if this is the same thing your experiencing. Kinda like a clicking noise is more like it.

Re: Engine knocking

its pretty common with lifter engines...the oil takes a few minutes to get to the oilers on the lifters. It was pretty common on the Mitsu 3.0 dohc and in 1999 Mitsu changed the lifters to a larger bore oiling hole and it stopped the ticking for the most part. Sounds like the hemi needs the same thing---

Well guys its me again ringing in.I have a all stock 2005 WK and MDS when sitting at the traffic light the MDS will turn itself on, and if you have your hands on the sterning wheel waiteing for it to turn green you can feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel at idel, thats the MDS kicking in.
Thanks Gary Detroit Michigan I can almost see the jeeps comeing off the assembly line from my front window. In case you want to know the plant that makes our beloved Jeep is called the Jefferson North Plant.

Using the DashHawk I monitor MDS and have never seen it come on when in PARK or while sitting at a light or stop sign!

Re: Engine knocking

I'm 99% sure sure MDS will NOT activate while in park or while the Jeep is stopped in drive. If it does, something is wrong.
